Adult Swim's Leading New Show of 2025 Gets a Significant Renewal for Two More Seasons.

In October of last year, Adult Swim debuted a new season of its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. But, not long after, the network unveiled a brand-new animated series with a markedly softer vibe. Haha, You Clowns emerged as sweet and soothing, evoking a cartoon version of a laid-back talk show. During a period often characterized by bleakness, this show's sincerity resonated deeply and propelled it a surprise hit.

A Significant Investment

In mid-December, Adult Swim made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for two additional seasons. This gives creator Joe Cappa a massive runway to further explore the world of the Campbell family. The series focuses on three well-mannered teenage brothers whose defining trait is their deep love for their widowed father, with Cappa voicing for all four key characters.

"I am incredibly thankful to the viewers of the show who took a chance on the show and shared it with others," remarked Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for a little longer."

Network Praise

The official statement also included praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "profoundly sincere and oddly captivating." He thanked the fans who discovered the show and supported its distinctly quirky sensibility.

"All of you got behind this new show, praised it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Different Kind of Comedy

Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a comforting antidote" to more cynical adult animated fare. Viewers found something unexpectedly cozy about observing this charming family navigate their daily lives.

Previously, creator Joe Cappa shared his goal to evolve comedy past its long-running sarcastic tone. He linked this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.

“There's this level of irony that we are trapped in,” noted Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we just have to laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.”

What Comes Next

With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa could potentially catalyze that change he described. If nothing else, the renewal ensures audiences additional episodes to experience the warm glow of the unique Campbell clan.

The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. The complete first season is currently streaming on HBO Max.
