Grief as Beloved South African DJ Shot Dead in the City of Johannesburg.
A popular South African radio and club DJ has been fatally gunned down in the nation's economic hub Johannesburg, sending shockwaves across a nation battling entrenched crime.
Warrick Stock, popularly known as DJ Warras, was attacked in the downtown area on the afternoon of Tuesday.
Authorities reported the 40-year-old entertainer was approached by three suspects, one of whom opened fire on him before fleeing on foot.
The purpose of the incident has not been established and no arrests have taken place, police said.
How It Happened
Authorities revealed that Stock was attacked as he was departing from a location close to the city center landmark.
He had devoted time at the site supervising the installation of security systems, which had been illegally inhabited by unknown people, according to reports.
"It is alleged the victim was approached by three unknown suspects after he parked his car, and they shot at him before running from the location on foot," authorities stated.
CCTV footage showed a man with dreadlocks and wearing what looked like a security uniform opening fire on Stock before running away.
The DJ tried to run away after he was shot but fell down a short distance away.
It was further revealed that Stock had an weapon on his person and it was not a robbery during the incident.
Crucial forensic evidence, like spent shells, were recovered from the location.
Call for Public Assistance
Authorities have requested anyone who saw the event who may have seen the suspects to come forward.
"We know they covered significant ground after the shooting, and investigators have been following their trail to determine their whereabouts," added an official.

His sister, Nicole Stock, expressed the loved ones are reeling to understand the tragedy.
"I am in shock. I don't have words," were her words.
"We know he was a representative for countless citizens. He spoke out bravely about topics not many people were prepared to tackle. This is a profound tragedy."
She appealed to the public to refrain from sharing graphic images from the incident, saying this was an incredibly difficult time, especially for Stock's children.

Stock was the presenter of Ngicel' iVisa, a series that aired on a popular local TV network.
In addition to his role as a presenter, Stock was active in various business ventures, including private security, supplying elite guarding services and protecting prestigious gatherings across South Africa.
He was also understood to participate in real estate operations and assisted with building evictions.

His murder has sent the nation reeling and prompted an outpouring of tributes from his followers, the authorities and political parties.
A senior figure remarked he was outraged and heartbroken by Stock's murder.

In a release, the channel he worked for affirmed Stock was known for his presence, approachability and sharp wit, adding that his memory "will live on".
