Gun-wielding individuals have taken the life of an instructor and abducted at least 25 students in an raid targeting a female high school in Nigeria's northwestern region, police reports indicate.
The gang of attackers invaded the comprehensive secondary school for girls in Maga, Kebbi State at around 4 AM local time on the start of the week, authorities reported.
The attackers "exchanged fire with security forces on duty in a shootout" before climbing over the boundary wall and abducting the learners from their living quarters, according to a statement.
An educational worker was killed while trying to protect the students. A second sustained gunshot wounds and is now being treated medically.
Witnesses reported a sizeable number of assailants, known locally as bandits, who came shooting randomly to cause panic.
