The Fashion Icon Antony Price, Renowned for Styling David Bowie and Duran Duran, Has Died Aged 80.
The British designer Antony Price, the influential British fashion designer responsible for some of the most iconic looks associated with musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has died at 80 years old.
Price was best known for his sculptured silhouettes and theatrical styles, including the light-hued ensembles that featured in the iconic band Duran Duran's classic music video for "their hit Rio".
"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the band released a statement online."
This news arrives shortly after he presented his newest line in London, which was his first major show in over 30 years. Singer Lily Allen walked in a dress that paid homage to the iconic black velvet "revenge dress" once worn by Princess Diana.
An Enduring Influence
A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price moved to London during the sixties to enroll at the renowned Royal College of Art.
Shortly after his graduation, he began designing clothing for men at Stirling Copper and was behind the form-fitting, button-fly pants that rock legend Mick Jagger wore during The Rolling Stones' "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.
He launched his own brand in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show featured as its opener creations worn by the famed model Jerry Hall, who was also seen in the marriage dress Price designed for her for her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger.
Working with Legends
A frequent collaborator of David Bowie, Price created the memorable jacket the singer wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.
His characteristic talent to blend menswear and womenswear along with his masterful technique in crafting form-fitting garments cemented his status as a "true original," as stated by the British Fashion Council.
By the 1990s, he commenced designing ensembles for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, such as a number of outfits for her American tour after becoming Duchess.
With a vocation that covered over fifty years, Price presented his final runway show in London just last month in collaboration with the fashion brand 16Arlington.

The industry mourns the loss to a true visionary whose impact on the visual landscape of music remains deeply ingrained.
