The Game UN:Me: A Cerebral Horror That Blends Silent Hill with Among Us Mechanics

The recent Day of the Devs online presentation revealed several intriguing future games, but one in particular has seized the imagination: UN:Me. Developed by Historia and Shueisha Games, this solo experience appears to fuse together the oppressive atmosphere of a Silent Hill title with the paranoid deduction core of Among Us.

"This is a unique game where a young woman containing multiple human souls inside her must escape from a maze of the psyche," explains developer Yasukazu Kawai.

Entering a Fractured Consciousness

In UN:Me, players take control of an unnamed heroine who appears to be of high school age. Within her reside four distinct personas, all possessing unique fears and drives. These entities can take over spontaneously, releasing their innermost terrors upon her without warning.

Based on showcased footage, much of the action takes place within a eerie medical facility, while other scenes depict the main character exploring a desolate chapel.

A World of Personal Horror

"What are you fearful of? What makes you uncomfortable?" poses creative lead Shun Sasaki. "High places. Confined spaces. People in power. Things that seem trivial to others can activate a deep instinct inside us. This game explores that idea — fears that are specific to every individual."

The core mechanic revolves around controlling the persona that emerges at a particular time. However, these identities will change involuntarily during gameplay. While exploring, every persona's anxieties become exaggerated and assault the girl one after another. When the soul changes, so does the specific fear the player encounters.

Eerie Visuals and a Fatal Choice

Initially, UN:Me shares striking visual similarities with the Silent Hill series. The setting is populated by nurses all sporting the identical visage, with unnervingly wide smiles. Patients in the lobby have large flowers growing from their heads should be. Floral motifs are an ever-present theme, juxtaposing natural beauty with supernatural dread.

Yet, UN:Me presents a unique mechanic. Players must determine which of the four entities inhabiting the protagonist is the "true" one. "Each of the souls asserts that the physical form is rightfully them," explains a creator. "During the game, you must determine who is real."

Once players believes a persona is an impostor, they must eliminate it. But, since every entity can deceive or obfuscate the truth, it is very easy to make a mistake.

"Perhaps you've already eliminated the real [soul] with your own hands," the narration states. "The final entity remaining might be a fake. Either way, your decisions are irreversible."

UN:Me does not yet have a publicly announced launch window, but it is can be wishlist on platforms.
