Toronto Blue Jays Earn Fall Classic Matchup With defending champion Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

George Springer was instrumental for the Houston Astros claiming the World Series in 2017.

The Toronto Blue Jays advanced to their initial World Series since 1993 by defeating the Seattle Mariners in the seventh seventh game of the American League Championship Series.

Trailing 3-1, Springer smashed a three-run homer in the seventh, propelling the Toronto squad in Major League Baseball to a 4-3 triumph in the best-of-seven series. Awaiting them are the Los Angeles Dodgers, the team that is the current crown, in the upcoming Fall Classic.

"It's incredible for everyone here, our city, the nation," commented Springer, an integral part of the Houston Astros team that secured the 2017 title. "What an incredible feeling."

George Springer has now connected for 23 total October home runs, ranking him third on the list behind Manny Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Jose Altuve (27).

"It's hard to imagine another player on planet Earth that I want up in that moment other than him with his post-season brilliance," said Blue Jays manager John Schneider.

The Mariners, despite leading the series two games to none and three games to two, are still the one club yet to make an appearance in a World Series.

Manager Dan Wilson said "certainly that it's painful" in the wake of his side's defeat at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but commended their efforts in the campaign.

"They're an exceptional squad. Sadly that we finished on the wrong side of the series," he continued.

Toronto claimed the World Series on each of their earlier trips in 1992 and 1993, and will welcome the Dodgers in game one on the upcoming Friday.
